Quality of Life: Paducah Symphony
PADUCAH, KY - Maestro Raffaele Ponti of the Paducah Symphony says, "To have an orchestra of this level in this size city is something extraordinary." Maestro Ponti auditioned for the position of Artistic Director and Conductor with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra in February 2010 and conducted his first symphony in Paducah on September 11. In this episode of Quality of Life, Mayor Bill Paxton talks with Maestro Ponti about his background and experience, his impressions of Paducah, and his plans for the Paducah Symphony Orchestra.
In his short time in Paducah, Maestro Ponti has discovered a key factor about the City of Paducah and its residents. Maestro Ponti says, "What I have learned about the people in Paducah is that when they have an idea, a vision, a plan, they go for it, and it becomes first class." In this episode of Quality of Life find out what Maestro Ponti calls the "jewel" of Paducah.
Maestro Ponti has plans to expand the outreach efforts of the Paducah Symphony through the Stained Glass Series, which takes the Symphony to local churches, and through open rehearsal opportunities for students to join the orchestra during practices. Maestro Ponti says, "I believe an orchestra must be run like a company. It must be a chameleon and change with the times."
